Registration of vehicles in India is done by the respective state transport authorities. The BH series (Bharat Heavy) is a special series allotted to vehicles registered in the states of Jharkhand and Odisha. The BH series vehicle registration number plates have the following format: BH XX 22 XXXX. Here, BH stands for Bharat Heavy, XX stands for the two-digit district code, 22 stands for the two-digit state code, and XXXX stands for the four-digit numbering system.

Registration process

The process of vehicle registration starts with the purchase of the vehicle. The buyer has to fill out a form and submit it to the nearest Regional Transport Office (RTO) along with the documents mentioned by the RTO. After completing the formalities, the buyer has to pay the registration fees and tax. Once the fee and taxes are paid, the RTO will issue the registration certificate and the 22 bh number plate which state.

2. Form 20 (Sales Certificate)
3. Form 21 (Roadworthiness Certificate)

Rules and regulations

The rules and regulations for vehicle registration in the BH series vary from state to state. For instance, in Odisha, the vehicle should be registered within seven days of purchase. The registration is valid only for a period of three years and needs to be renewed after that. It is also necessary to get the vehicle inspected and certified by the RTO once every three years.

Penalties

The penalties for not registering a vehicle in the BH series or for not renewing the registration are hefty. The penalties can vary from state to state but usually include a fine, seizure of the vehicle, suspension of the driving license, and/or imprisonment.
