Understand What Is Break In Period In Third Party Bike Insurance Plan

In today's fast-paced world, achieving a work-life balance has become increasingly difficult. With multiple priorities and deadlines to meet, such as completing a work project or paying your child's tuition fees, it can be challenging to keep track of your third-party bike insurance renewal after it has expired. However, with proper planning, you can ensure you don't face any unwanted consequences and sail through smoothly.

What is the break-in period?

A break-in period is when a third-party bike insurance policy is inactive, that is, the time between the

expiry of the previous policy and the renewal of a new one. For instance, if the previous policy expires on 20th April and the new policy is renewed on 10th May, the 20-day duration between the expiry and renewal is referred to as the break-in period.

What are the effects of the break-in period?

Under the Motor Vehicles Act of 1988, all vehicle owners in India must have at least Third-party Liability insurance before driving or riding on Indian roads. It is illegal to ride a bike during the break-in period, which is the duration between the policy's expiry and renewal. Depending on valid insurance can lead to monetary penalties, legal hassles, and even imprisonment if involved in an accident with an injured third party.

The primary purpose of third-party bike insurance is to provide financial security against unforeseen circumstances. If your bike gets stolen or is involved in an accident during the break-in period, you will face financial losses since the policy is inactive.

Renewing your two-wheeler insurance policy during the break-in period may still allow you to retain your No Claim Bonus (NCB), provided you renew it within 90 days from the policy expiry date. Therefore, it's best to continue your policy in time or avoid riding during the break-in period.

It is crucial to renew your two-wheeler insurance policy before it expires to ensure that you are financially protected against any unforeseen circumstances. The break-in period between policy expiry and renewal leaves you without insurance coverage, making it illegal to ride your bike on Indian roads.

So, renew your policy on time to avoid any legal hassles, financial losses, and loss of NCB benefits. Always prioritize the safety of yourself and others on the road by having valid third-party bike insurance at all times.
