According to the Road Transport and Highways Ministry of India, vehicles without FASTags are mandated to pay a penalty fee of two times the charges at toll booths all across the country from 15th December, 2019 onwards.
FASTag was implemented in 2014 but its services enhanced after the introduction of National Electronic Toll Collection in 2016. Since then, there are more than 6,000 FASTag lanes in toll plazas in India. However, in order to pass through such lanes, you need to get FASTag for car.
What is FASTag?
When you are passing through a FASTag lane of a toll plaza, you are not required to stop for any transaction if you possess a FASTag card. Such a card, usually attached to the windscreen of your car, uses Radio Frequency Identification technology to enable automatic deduction of toll charges.
A tag reader, stationed on the outer walls of a toll plaza scans the FASTag attached to your vehicle and deducts from a prepaid account; thus completing the monetary transaction of your toll taxes at minimum effort.
How to purchase this card?
Interested candidates can purchase a FASTag card from authorised financial institutions by using one of the following methods –

There are more than 28,000 portals initiated by authorised financial institutions for offline registration and recharge purposes of FASTag. So, you can open a NETC account, buy a FASTag card or recharge the balance of your existing FASTag card by visiting any of those portals.
